Macy’s Will Stop Selling THIS Iconic Product After Pressure From Millennials

As the popularity of internet shopping continues to burst at the seams, there are many well-known stores that are struggling to remain relevant. One example of this would be Macy’s. However, they are now making a move that they hope will help them score some points with their younger shoppers and others who live a vegan lifestyle. Needless to say, this decision is very surprising for the department store chain, to say the least.

To make a long story short, Macy’s just announced that they will stop selling all fur products by the end of 2021. This includes EVERYTHING, including the stores luxurious $8,000 mink and their $14,000 chinchilla jackets. The store’s CEO wanted his merchandising team to listen to their eco-conscious shoppers and make a positive mark in the world. Will this decision backfire? Only time will tell, of course.

Of course, there are a lot of people who might simply say, “Well, I’ll just buy fur in one of their company-owned franchises, such as Maximilian locations, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s backstages, and others. Unfortunately, this won’t work either, because the Macy’s company is eliminating fur COMPLETELY. Of course, one has to wonder what they are going to sell at their Fur Vaults, but I digress.

Macy’s decided to join forces with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) in order to engage in this merchandising strategy. They sought to do something for the animals of the world, and the nonprofit organization was happy to lend a hand to them. They sought to put an end to animal cruelty and the trouble of animal welfare that they claim happens the world over.

The CEO and president of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is Kitty Block, and she said the following: “We applaud Macy’s for their forward-thinking vision and their bold stand to make the sale of fur nonexistent by the end of this year.”

“We know that this view is consistent with the views of countless other marketplace consumers, and we hope that many other retailers will follow suit. We see countless designers, states, and even some major cities taking a stand against the cruel practice of selling fur, so we are encouraged that we are that much closer to ending this unnecessary and barbaric practice.”

There is no question that Macy’s is being very smug and even downright gloating over this decision to change their ways regarding the sale of fur by the beginning of 2021.

Macy’s CEO Jeff Gennette reported that he has been closely monitoring all of the consumer trends over the past couple of years, and he said that he definitely noted how the marketplace began to turn against the purchase of genuine fur. He said that he has noticed that more and more people are opting for fur alternatives instead of genuine fur, which many are beginning to feel is nothing more than the remains of a dead animal being used as an article of clothing.

“We have closely watched this over the past two years,” Gennette said. “We have followed consumer trends, and we have listened to our customers and have thoroughly researched alternatives to fur. We have even listened to our colleagues, including those from the Go Green Employee Resource Group. We also have met regularly regarding this topic, and we simply have come to the conclusion that we will no longer be selling real fur at all.”

There is also no question that Gennette believes he is setting the bar high for all of Macy’s competitors. That is why he also included an urge for other retailers to follow their lead in his statement. He called it a friendly warning, saying that the times were changing.

Macy’s wrote the following on their website: “We have developed our fur-free policy in conjunction with the Humane Society of the United States, and we also made sure that it was fully aligned with all Fur Free Alliance guidelines. This means that we can allow sheep products that are ethically sourced and also cattle hair and cattle fur. Of course, the sheep fur is referred to as a “sheering” or “sheepskin” product, and the cattle fur is also called either “cowhide” or “calf fur.”

  1. You’re all cowards caving to these losers. We have the money and I don’t need your overpriced crap anyway. You’ll be out of business soon.

  2. Years ago, the young radicals were protesting the fur coat store in Portland. I walked up to one of the protestors to get some information. He proclaimed the usual talking points, including the mandatory baby seals. When he finished, I asked him “with your concern about baby seals, how do you feel about abortions?”
Without a word, he turned around and hastily walked away. That told me a lot!

  3. More like they don’t want such expensive items where rioters and looters can get to them when they are already struggling to stay afloat.

  4. Considering how much fur the millennials buy this is a big move. Macy’s is really no longer relevant with the people with the money who actually buy items from them. They are overpriced and really not all that good.

  5. Personally I agree with the discontinuing of selling furs. I am sixty four and for many years was an avid hunter and collected my hunt souvenirs with the best of them. Hunted for many years with my Dad. Killing for the sake of killing and then to adorn ones self with a fur I think is some thing that should be stopped!!!!

  6. I do not like the idea of removing this nation’s history. You do not have to like it, but it is true. If we remove our history then this nation is not what I spend 23 years fighting for. There are a lot of things that I do not care for in this world today, but this is my country and I would gladly do it again. We have to keep our history alive and respect others. We have to learn to get along or this country will never be the same for our children and their children. Wake up people or the life we have now will never be again.

  8. Another instance of cowardly corporate personnel caving to morons and haters. When are the corporate runners going to get their backbones stiffened?

  9. I don’t care what they do as I don’t shop there anyway. They will be out of business in a few years so let them do whatever they want.

  10. Hypocritical. What’s the difference?
Fur on fur off. There all hides.
    All leather is dead animals.
Yeah, been used for clothes since the beginning of time.
Cut your nose off to spite your face
while everyone watches you kiss half an ass. #Youlose

  11. It’s their decision so I personally think it’s a good thing to do. Save the poor animals the pain. Next thing Macy’s should do is get rid of those nasty looking mooslim head things as well as any clothing they might have To do w/the mooslims. Just my opinion. I gave up my card several years ago & haven’t shopped there since.

  12. I think it’s a good decision. I thought they had done it years ago.
Faux fur is almost indistinguishable from real. It’s also less expensive.
The only people who should be using real fur live in the arctic/antarctic regions where real fur is necessary as real fur seems to work better at keeping them warm. That and they can hunt their own animals and use the fur, meat, bones, etc. Nothing is wasted.
Mink, chinchilla, and other animals raised for fur don’t have those properties and it’s only vanity for people buying those coats.
Don’t get me wrong, I eat meat…but there is no reason to have mink, chinchilla, et al fur coats nowadays

  13. Idiots will rule your life. Everybody is against something. One day there will be nothing.

  14. I just wonder if they are going to continue selling real Leather goods such as shoes and hats and coats and shirts and pants made out of leather. Just wonderin’…
I don’t shop at Macy’s or any of their subs, so it doesn’t really matter. Just wondering.

  15. If enough stores quit selling furs the farmers that raise them for for a cash crop will just destroy all the animals on their farms so how is this going to help animals? Animals were put here for us to use wisely and not to to over run their home ranges. Also What about pork, beef, and fowl? When the deer or wild pigs start eating up you vegetable gardens and tearing up your lawns you might sing a different tune. Gopher and wood chuck holes in the lawn are a pain in the butt especially when mowing. These folks who live in the cities need to get out in the country a little and see what life is all about. I see pictures everyday on TV about mistreated dogs and cats, heel you can’t even take care of the animals that you can do something about and you want to regulate some farmer in South America because he raises chinchillas for fur. The animals are not mistreated as this would decrease their value and the meat is sold on the local markets.

  16. When will they stop selling products made of leather, or those containing feathers? Also, is it PC to sell products made from the stolen production of silkworms?

  17. I hope it costs them business for giving into these urban fools. Mink are nasty creatures good for only one thing–fur. In the colder parts of this globe the only thing that keeps people from freezing is fur.

  18. Great decision. Only it should be initiated now not wait another year. Animals suffer as much pain and fear as humans, the only difference, they remain helpless against the monsters who inflict this onto them.

  19. How about all leather products? Jackets, shoes, hats and purses? I mean just think of the poor animals used to make them. If you are bent on not offending anyone then go all out by all means or don’t go at all.

  20. Will they also stop selling make up that uses animals for testing? You can’t be a hypocrite and stop one thing without the other. And just to make a point fur coats aren’t selling like they used to, so as far as I’m concerned its not a big move on their behalf. It does not impress me that this change is coming.

  21. I am a retired firefighter. I have went synthetic material stick to burn victims. Debrieding (sp) skin from melted synthetics is incredibly painful in even the best burn units.
Leather is a natural fire inhibitor, feels good and is durable (unless it comes from China). We use leather in much of our firefighting PPE. It is natural. It is intended to be used for its utilitarian qualities.
Won’t be shopping at Macy’s any longer.

  22. Ninety Nine (99) percent of these snowflakes have, absolutely, no idea how these furs come into being.
Our forefathers and WE find that God created these animals for our use. Just wha makes them think that they all suffer?
