Videos posted on X appear to show officers or event security taking a man to the ground and handcuffing him during a JD Vance rally in Lakeland, Florida. The Gateway Pundit described the man as a heckler and said the incident happened Thursday.

What the videos show

One clip shared by Kaitlin Bennett on X appears to show several officers or security personnel attempting to escort a man out before one officer sweeps his legs and brings him to the ground to be handcuffed. A separate X post by the account MAGA Voice also shows the takedown and arrest. We have not independently verified the identity of the officers or whether charges were filed.

What Vance said from the stage

As the man shouted, JD Vance paused and said, “We got a clown over here, ladies and gentlemen,” according to The Gateway Pundit’s post and the circulating video. The outlet reported the crowd responded with “USA” chants as the man was removed.

Vance later added, “You always have to laugh at these protesters because that guy… made sure to bring his cell phone at the end of a pole,” and called him “a Democrat plant,” according to the same post. Those characterizations are Vance’s; we have not verified the protester’s affiliation or intent.

Who the heckler was, according to posts

The Gateway Pundit identified the man as Ben Braver, described as a Democratic candidate for the Florida House of Representatives. The MAGA Voice post on X also labeled the person “Dem Candidate Ben Braver.” We have not verified that identification or the candidacy claim.

What’s not clear

The source material does not include official statements from Lakeland police, event organizers, or the person removed. It also does not specify whether the personnel involved were police officers or private security, nor what, if any, charges were made.
