-
Populist pitch: Gaetz said Bannon’s campaign would be based on a “wealth tax economic agenda.”
-
Conversation context: The remarks came on The Tucker Carlson Show during a discussion on populism and economic policy.
Here we go again. In a political world full of noise, Matt Gaetz dropped a prediction that has everyone talking. On The Tucker Carlson Show, Gaetz said longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon intends to run for president in 2028 on a populist economic pitch that would target the “wealthy elite.” Forget boring Washington candidates who play it safe. According to Gaetz, Bannon plans to go big, shake up stale politics, and take a hard look at economic inequality from a populist angle. Love him or hate him, Bannon’s name in the 2028 conversation is exactly the kind of shake-up establishment types never wanted to hear.
Breitbart reports:
Monday on “The Tucker Carlson Show,” former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) predicted that Steve Bannon would run for president in 2028 on a populist “wealth tax economic agenda.”
Gaetz said, “Just like the and I love Steve Bannon, so I don’t want like my our last discussion to come across as a criticism of Steve but I mean he’s going to run for president on the on just a straight, Elizabeth Warren wealth tax economic agenda.”
Carlson said, “Actually.”
Gaetz said, “Yeah. He’s going to run for president and say, take the money from those people who have way too much of it, the Bill Ackman of the world. And I want to give it to you.”
Hold up. Whether you think Bannon could actually pull it off or not, this prediction confirms one thing for sure. The GOP bench is still wide open and everybody’s jockeying for position. If even insurgent figures like Bannon are being talked about for 2028, it shows the conservative movement is alive, unpredictable and ready to disrupt the status quo yet again.
