Elon Musk said Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas “around the middle of next year” to free capacity for more “Cybercab” robotaxis. “Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production,” Musk posted on X on Nov. 6, 2026.

Pivot to robotaxis

Musk described Cybercabs on Sept. 3, 2026, writing on X: “Cybercabs have no steering wheels or pedals. They are designed and built for maximally efficient autonomous operation.”

TechCrunch said Tesla’s current push is its robotaxi fleet and noted Cybercabs have operated in Austin, Texas, for two months “with no major problems.” The article also states Tesla has said Dallas is slated to get the service this month, with other cities to follow.

Sales and expectations

TechCrunch reported the Cybertruck never matched sales expectations. The outlet also cited Musk’s projection of 250,000 Cybertrucks per year. CNBC, citing Cox Automotive, reported an estimated 20,237 Cybertrucks were sold in the U.S. last year. NBC News summarized Musk’s timing as “mid-2027” in a post on X.

Price and backstory

The BBC reported the Cybertruck’s “Cyberbeast” variant at about $102,000, with other models starting around $80,000. The article says the Cybertruck was first announced in 2019; at the time, CNBC quoted Musk as saying, “Trucks have been the same for a very long time,” and TechCrunch quoted him calling a pickup truck his “personal favorite” next product.

Other claims to note

The Gateway Pundit/Western Journal article also claimed Tesla is ending production of the Model S and Model X to make room for Optimus humanoid robots. Digital Dredger has not independently confirmed that claim.
