According to police, the passenger was heading home from work when her husband suddenly appeared and began ramming the rideshare vehicle she was in. Investigators say the suspect slammed his vehicle into the rideshare car four times, each hit more violent than the last. At one point, the force of the impact nearly pushed the rideshare vehicle down a 20-foot embankment. The passenger told police she feared her husband intended to kill her.

Despite the chaos, the driver stayed calm, kept control of the vehicle, and waited for an opening. When the suspect briefly backed off, the driver accelerated away and headed straight toward the nearest police station. Officers say that quick decision may have prevented a fatal outcome.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover. The rideshare driver was not injured.

“We want to acknowledge the incredible courage and quick thinking of the rideshare driver, whose actions likely prevented a tragedy,” the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement.
The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and remains at large. Police are urging the public to report any information that might help locate him. Detectives are treating the incident as a serious domestic violence case with clear signs of intent to harm.
