Greed Turns Deadly as Teen Accused of Plotting Parents’ Murders

Patriot Brief

  • Charges filed: Darren Munoz, 19, faces multiple murder-related charges for allegedly orchestrating his parents’ deaths.

  • Motive alleged: Investigators say Munoz believed he would inherit significant money once his parents were killed.

  • Second suspect arrested: Police say a friend carried out the shooting and has also been charged with murder.

Police say this was not a burglary gone wrong but a calculated act of greed that ended in bloodshed. A Clovis teenager is accused of plotting for weeks to have his own parents executed while they slept, allegedly believing their deaths would unlock a financial windfall. According to investigators, the plan involved recruiting friends, securing an untraceable handgun, and staging a fake break-in to cover it all up. The case has stunned the local community and left investigators detailing a chilling timeline fueled by money, deception, and betrayal. Authorities say the evidence paints a disturbing picture of premeditation, not impulse.

ABC7 reports:

A Clovis teenager is accused of hiring a friend to kill his parents because he expected to inherit a large sum of money “once they were out of the picture.”

Darren Munoz, 19, is charged with two counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and criminal solicitation.

According to the arrest affidavit, Darren plotted with two friends for “several weeks or months” to kill his father, Oscar Steve Munoz. 58, and stepmother, Dina Munoz, 71.

According to the arrest affidavit, a friend told police Darren and two of his friends, including Julio Zamora, had been “planning for several weeks or months” to kill his parents. She said Darren wanted to “take over the parents belongings/finances.”

“Darren believed he would inherit a large sum of money if his father and step mother were out of the picture,” said police in the arrest affidavit.

As prosecutors move forward, the case stands as a chilling reminder of how greed and moral collapse can turn deadly even inside the family home. For investigators, the focus now turns to accountability for what they describe as a cold, deliberate betrayal that cost two innocent people their lives.
